The Lebanese Army veterans issued a statement detailing their ever-degrading living situation and saying that injustice will not be tolerated and that unless measures are taken to rectify the situation, the only course of action would be to take back the streets at all costs.

“While all the taxes, services, and prices are on the rise, and with the declining living conditions of the public sector employees and retirees, the salaries and pensions barely cover the electricity or phone bills,” the statement read.

“The Cabinet and Parliament are still postponing and failing to execute decree number 11227 dated April 18, 2023, that deals with the salary increase for public sector employees and retirees, which was set to go into effect at the beginning of June,” the statement added.

The Army veterans had granted the political authorities several chances in order to correct the injustice they are subjected to, but all efforts were in vain.

The statement called on the government to take radical measures in order to fix this situation.

First, to achieve equality among the employees of all sectors in terms of the minimum wage.

Second, to standardize the minimum wage increase and equate it between retirees and actual employees.

Third, to correct the monthly compensations in a manner that takes into consideration the monthly expenses and living costs.
