Dormant cells in certain areas and in some Palestinian camps might be activated to destabilize Lebanon during the mandate of President Joseph Aoun, who emphasized the state’s monopoly over weapons in his inaugural speech, according to a security report obtained by opposition politicians.

There are fears of an attempt to use dormant cells in some areas and Palestinian camps” to target stability in Lebanon to serve external purposes related to the drastic developments in Gaza, Syria and Lebanon, the political sources noted.

According to information, the goal of activating these cells is to undermine Aoun’s mandate and to disrupt the implementation of the main points in his plan outlined in his oath of office, especially with regard to disarming non-state actors.

In a related development, Western diplomatic sources revealed that dozens of Syrians and Lebanese residing in Syria have crossed into Lebanon, specifically in the village of Iaat near Baalbeck. Among them were officers from the former Syrian regime who fled with the help and protection of Hezbollah members.
