The council of minister scheduled on Friday May 26 at the Grand Serail will be looking at 72 items on its agenda, mainly pertaining to treasury advances to cover salary additions and social services allocated to public employees.

One item is about opening lines of credit to finance the purchase of food and medicines for the armed forces and security services.

Among other points on the agenda are the revision of taxes imposed by the General Security and an odd request by the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR), demanding the eccentric annual sum of 20 million fresh dollars for the maintenance of Beirut’s airport.

The airport’s maintenance is contracted to MEAS company which, according to CDR, “should be able to continue its work in order to avert the dangerous consequences” of an eventual discontinuation of the contract.

A request made by the ministry of education that is bound to stir controversy pertains to the prolongation of a ministerial decision dated February 8, 2022 allowing the registration of Syrian children born in Lebanon who are more than a year old.

Mahmoud Makkiye, secretary general of the council of ministers, noted that the agenda covers “fundamental, urgent and imminent matters.”

It is good to mention that many points pertain to the ministers’ travels.
