One year ago, protests erupted in Iran following the death of Mahsa Amini at the hands of the Iranian morality police. Her real Kurdish name was Jina, which means “Life” in Sorani. Her death on September 18, 2022, triggered a national movement of resistance against the regime. The repression of the protests forced hundreds of Kurdish women to flee to the autonomous Kurdistan region of Iraq. This is Beirut has met some of them in Souleimaniye.
