President Joseph Aoun visited the Internal Security Forces’ operations room in Achrafieh on Sunday to monitor the launch of the second round of municipal and mukhtar elections in North Lebanon and Akkar.
He praised the efforts of the security forces, as well as the Ministries of Interior and Justice, and declared that “these elections are a clear message to both domestic and international audiences that the Lebanese state is back on the right track.”
Aoun noted that voter turnout in the first round was lower than expected, reminding citizens that these elections are about local development, not political rivalry.
He urged voters to choose based on programs, not personalities, and warned against the influence of money in electoral choices.
He added that legal proceedings are underway in Mount Lebanon, where several suspects have been arrested in connection with electoral fraud.
