Gold Rush for Nasrallah-Themed Memorabilia

Since the assassination of former Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, a gold rush of sorts has swept through Beirut’s southern suburb, with a surge in demand for items bearing his image. Books, medallions, and even gold coins and bars are flying off the shelves.

According to information obtained by This is Beirut, local jewelers have reported a steady and sustained demand since last October. “This isn’t just a rumor or a social media stunt — the viral videos circulating online accurately reflect the reality on the ground,” confirmed a well-informed local source.

Among the most coveted items is a gold coin bearing Nasrallah’s likeness, weighing around 8 grams — similar to the iconic British gold sovereign. However, unlike the sovereign, which is minted in 22-carat gold, the Lebanese version is crafted from 21-carat gold.

Another newly circulating item is a 10-gram gold bar engraved with the late leader’s profile. “Crafting heavier bars is technically more challenging for Lebanese artisans who specialize in precious metals,” explained a Beirut-based jeweler. “Launching a production run also requires a sufficient volume of orders to make it financially viable.”

Some sources suggest that part of the minting is carried out in Turkey, while the books and medallions are manufactured locally under a registered trademark with Lebanon’s Ministry of Economy.
