Lebanese Forces (LF) leader Samir Geagea stressed that “the government must take a stance in the supreme Lebanese interest” instead of acting as a mailbox for Hezbollah and echoing its position.
In a press conference on Friday, he said, “We do not want a civil war, but we want to present things as they should be,” revealing that “Amos Hochstein takes all notes and comments on his proposals from Hezbollah, and the government merely acts as a scout and provides charity support for what the party does in the south.”
Additionally, Geagea accused the government of being “responsible for the number of martyrs in the south and for the Lebanese people because the people elected MPs to represent the majority, not Hezbollah.”
“Some smart people from the (Hezbollah-led) axis of resistance say that Israel does not want to implement UN resolution 1701, but we all know that they are the ones who do not want to implement it,” he added.
On the other hand, Geagea called for using the term “illegal Syrian presence” instead of refugees or displaced people, since “Lebanon is not a country of asylum.”
He also called on the government to “take a sovereign decision to characterize the Syrians in Lebanon, and ask international organizations to stop aid to anyone whose presence is classified as illegal.”
Concerning the presidential issue, he said “there are 30 or 40 MPs in Parliament who do not want to take a position on the presidential file,” emphasizing that “they have to express their convictions.”
Regarding the case of Pascal Sleiman, the LF official who was killed in April, Geagea pointed out that “all investigations, so far, have dealt with mere details, but the main point, which is the motive of his assassination, is yet to be explored.”
“General Michel Aoun put us in the first stage of hell and the axis of resistance is plunging us even deeper into another level of hell,” Geagea concluded.
