Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel emphasized on Thursday “the need to protect Lebanon by ensuring its neutrality, for the country not to be dragged into the ongoing regional war,” emphasizing the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

Gemayel made these remarks during a formal visit of the new US ambassador, Lisa Johnson, to the party’s headquarters.

He also called for “pressure to be applied for the implementation of UN Resolution 1701,” underscoring the importance of “restoring Lebanon’s freedom of decision, re-establishing the functioning of its institutions, and separating the question of the presidency from issues related to the conflict in Gaza.”

Gemayel emphasized the role of the Quintet committee, responsible for monitoring the presidential election in Lebanon, along with its unified position to accelerate and facilitate the election of a president of the Republic.

He highlighted the significance of US support for the Lebanese Army, emphasizing “its role in protecting the border and defending Lebanon and the Lebanese people.”
