Fuel importing companies have decided to halt the delivery of fuels (petrol, diesel, and gas) starting Wednesday morning.

In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, the fuel companies said that the imposition of an exceptional tax on importing companies had been rushed through and was not included in the draft budget bill drawn up by the parliament’s Finance Committee.

The companies consider that “approval of the exceptional tax will lead to the destruction of the sector.”

They have, therefore, decided to halt fuel deliveries as well as imports at a later date once stocks have been exhausted. According to the press release, “This is a preventive measure in the hope of a change of position among officials and to obtain clarification.”.

It should be noted that Fadi Abou Chakra, the representative of fuel distributors, told Al Jadeed TV that gasoline is available. He hoped for a reaction from those in charge “to restore everyone’s rights.”
