The Beirut Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Zalfa al-Hassan, has handed down its verdict in the Ansar crime in which Basma Abbas and her three daughters Rima, Tala and Manal were killed in cold-blood in March 2022.

The defendants, Hussein Jamil Fayyad, a Lebanese national, and Hassan Ali Ghannaj, a Syrian national, were sentenced to death for “intentional homicide, by luring the victims to a remote area, killing them in cold blood and burying their bodies in a cave to conceal the traces of the crime.”

They were also ordered to pay the victims’ families a fine of USD 2 million or its equivalent in Lebanese pounds.
