Lebanese Forces (LF) MP Ghayath Yazbeck stressed on Monday, October 23, that “Iran’s interests today determine our peace, our war and the state of attrition we find ourselves in.”

During an interview with the local radio station Free lebanon, Yazbeck said that “Iran’s cunning nature prevents it from slipping into a war it knows in advance would only affect Hamas and Hezbollah, and it cannot give peace to the people it fights for or alongside. Hezbollah takes Lebanon down detrimental paths, resulting in cancerous consequences for the party’s dominance over the state.”

According to Yazbeck, “Protecting the Palestinian cause lies in leveraging Lebanon’s relations with nations, not in resorting to missiles.”

“In 2006, we certainly did not win the war,” he said, adding, “Our infrastructure was destroyed, and we must acknowledge such facts. We must also say ‘no’ to anyone who harms our present and future.”

The LF MP pointed out that Hezbollah’s skirmishes along the southern border did not contribute to anything, as “they are acts of sheer bravado with some tactical value.” While Lebanon is an ailing country, he said, “we chose difficult paths today, while we have the strength to assume a neutral stance.”

Yazbeck emphasized that LF’s Strong Republic Bloc is working within the parliament to thwart Hezbollah’s project. Otherwise, he went on to say, Lebanon would have had a president called Sleiman Frangieh (Marada leader, pro-Iran).
