The US State Department updated on Tuesday, October 17, its travel advisory for Lebanon to level 4: Do not travel. This warning “reflects the authorized departure of family members of US government personnel and some non-emergency personnel on a case-by-case basis.”

It stated that this is “due to the unpredictable security situation related to rocket, missile, and artillery exchanges between Israel and Hezbollah or other armed militant factions,” as well as “terrorism, civil unrest, armed conflict, crime, kidnapping, and Embassy in Beirut’s limited capacity to provide support to US citizens.”

“We recommend that US citizens in Lebanon make appropriate arrangements to leave the country; commercial options currently remain available. We recommend that US citizens who choose not to depart prepare contingency plans for emergency situations,” the statement added.

“This does not impact the operations of the US Embassy Beirut, which remains fully open for business,” it further stated.
