Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati confirmed on Tuesday that he is intensifying his external and internal communications with the aim of keeping Lebanon as far away as possible from the repercussions of the ongoing war in Gaza.

In addition, Mikati is intensifying government meetings to take preventive measures to address any potential emergencies that may arise.

Mikati has chaired the seventh meeting of the National Disaster and Crisis Management Authority this afternoon at the Serail.

“The aim of today’s meeting was to inform the relevant ministers and specialized departments about the national response plan and discuss potential crises that may occur if events were to escalate in southern Lebanon. Our goal is not to spread fear among the people but to take all the necessary precautions and actions for the sake of caution,” he stated.

He continued, “The extensive external and internal communications we have conducted demonstrate our concern for Lebanon and its stability and our efforts to keep it away from conflicts. We are pursuing our contacts to restore stability in Southern Lebanon, and the priority is the necessity for the Lebanese position to be unified regarding the Palestinian issue, which we have observed during this crisis.”

Mikati received at his residence on Tuesday evening former MP Walid Jumblatt, leader of the Progressive Socialist Party Taymour Jumblatt, and MP Wael Abou Faour.

“The Prime Minister is working diligently, just as we are, to spare Lebanon from war through his Arab and international contacts,” stated Walid Jumblatt.

“We had hoped that this circumstance would lead to the election of a President of the Republic and the election of committees without any boycott. We will remain alongside the Prime Minister in all the efforts he is making, in the hope that we will not be dragged into war,” he insisted.

Bou Habib

Furthermore, Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Abdallah Bou Habib, continued his diplomatic meetings, which he had started yesterday with the aim of preventing escalation in the region.

He met on Tuesday morning with several ambassadors from countries participating in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

“The meeting focused on the situation in southern Lebanon and Gaza. I requested assistance from all the ambassadors in calming the situation along the southern borders, particularly urging Israel to cease its shelling, especially since Lebanon is responding in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa Farms,” he told the National News Agency (NNA).
