In a recent interview with “Al-Anbaa,” MP Bilal Abdallah, a member of the “Democratic Gathering” parliamentary bloc, voiced concerns over the escalating crisis of Syrian refugees in Lebanon. He suggested that “the Syrian regime is using the Lebanese arena to exert pressure on the international community to legitimize itself and secure funds under the pretext of reconstruction.”

Abdallah emphasized that such tactics are only feasible in Lebanon, stating that the Syrian president, Bashar el-Assad, wouldn’t dare do the same with Jordan or Turkey.

He attributed the crisis to what he perceives as the international community’s indifference to Lebanon’s precarious situation.

Abdallah stated, “The international community is turning a blind eye to the weak Lebanese state, prioritizing Ukrainian refugees, while Lebanon lacks a unified stance and plan to address this issue.”
