Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea has condemned the halting of the investigation into the murder of Elias Hasrouni, the party’s regional head in Bint Jbeil.

In a message directed towards caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi, caretaker Justice Minister Henri Khoury and Public Prosecutor Ghassan Oueidat, Geagea called upon the relevant authorities to “continue the investigation.”

The LF leader explained that whenever his party inquired about the progress of the investigation with the security services, the response remained consistent: “The security agencies can no longer proceed with the investigation because they are prohibited from doing so.”

“This is unacceptable by all standards,” Geagea emphasized. “We know that we live in a corrupt state controlled by Hezbollah, but for matters to reach the point of stopping the investigation into the assassination of a Lebanese citizen in broad daylight and within the sight of all Lebanese is absolutely unacceptable.”

Geagea thus implored Mikati, Mawlawi, Khoury and Oueidat, along with the relevant investigating judges, to “carry the investigation through to its conclusion and remove all obstacles in their way to reveal the truth, administer justice and respect citizens’ rights.”

Hasrouni, a former Lebanese Forces official, was found dead in a forest in the southern Lebanon village of Ain Ebel on August 2. While it was initially reported to be a car accident, it was later ruled as a murder.
