On Sunday, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained why Minister Abdallah Bou Habib will not be chairing the Lebanese commission, which will discuss in Damascus the modalities of a possible return of Syrian refugees to their homes.

In a press release, it was stated that Bou Habib has a busy international agenda in the months ahead and that his role in managing the Syrian refugee issue is limited to political and diplomatic contacts with Arab and Western countries. According to the text issued, “The Minister is pursuing these contacts and will continue to do so in coordination with the Prime Minister.” It further explained, “The follow-up of technical issues is the responsibility of the relevant ministers and administrations.”

It added that this clarification was necessary due to the analyses that were made following Bou Habib’s decision not to chair the official Lebanese delegation to Damascus.
