The fire in the forests of Wadi Jhannam, between Mishmish and Al-Qamamin, continues to ravage the inner side. According to first responders from the Union of Municipalities of Jurd El Kaytaa, these active fire points could reignite the fire if not fully extinguished and require immediate aerial intervention.

As such, caretaker Minister of Environment, Nasser Yassin, promptly mobilized military and defense council resources, dispatching two helicopters to assist in extinguishing the flames.

The fire started on Wednesday and is still going on, fueled by heavy wind and the heat wave.

In an initial report, “Darb Akkar” stated that “the fire erupted between the towns of Mishmish and Al-Qamamin in a steep and rugged area.” As a result, these challenges have limited the intervention of the “Darb Akkar” team and the first responders to providing general situation reports, and assessing damages, which exceeded 15 hectares as of 8:00 PM Friday evening.

Given Lebanon’s hot and dry weather conditions and the ongoing fire, the Minister of Environment emphasized “the urgent need to increase readiness, preparedness, and vigilance to prevent fires” in a statement on Saturday
