The Kataeb Party urged Hezbollah on Tuesday to acknowledge new political balances in Parliament, which have led to a group of parliamentarians demanding freedom of expression and the sharing of decision-making with citizens.

“Hezbollah’s campaign of threats and accusations against those with different opinions demonstrates their unwillingness to engage in power-sharing with other parties,” the party’s politburo said in a statement.

The party commended MP Michel Moawad for his national stance by withdrawing from the presidential race to facilitate a broader parliamentary agreement for the election of a President of the Republic.

It also expressed concern over Hezbollah’s recent military maneuvers in southern Lebanon amid “the officials’ silence” and stressed the need for the Lebanese legal authorities and international forces “to take action to prevent the proliferation of militia activities that threaten Lebanon’s stability.”
