A delegation of the World Bank on Wednesday informed caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, that the organization’s board of directors has approved a project for beefing up food security in Lebanon.

The primary objective of the Green-Agri Food Transformation for Economic Recovery (GATE) project is to strengthen food security in Lebanon by implementing agricultural, alternative energy, and irrigation projects, with an estimated total cost of 210 million US dollars.

Discussions between Salam and members of the World Bank’s delegation covered future steps of implementation, including the crucial roles of the relevant ministries to ensure the successful execution of the project.

They unanimously agreed to provide the necessary impetus to contribute to the reconstruction of the national economy, stressing that the main objective of the GATE project is to improve the resilience of farmers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Lebanese agri-food sector.
