In a statement, the Lebanese Pharmaceuticals Importers Association commented on reports circulating in some media and social networks that a large proportion of medicine in the Lebanese markets is counterfeit.

The Association assured the public that all medication imported via affiliated companies is reliable and conforms to the highest quality standards. The medicine is imported, stocked, and distributed according to the mechanisms in force, and the volume of imports has been rising steadily over the past few months.

However, the union does not deny the presence of certain counterfeit medicines in the Lebanese market and emphasizes the danger these medications pose to public safety.

It stressed that it is working closely with the Ministry of Health to continue to ensure the quality of medicine sold in the country, making sure medication is imported legally and officially, straight from manufacturers, to meet Lebanese citizens’ needs.

The union pointed out that since the beginning of the crisis and given the shortage of certain medicines, counterfeit and contraband medicines, illegally brought to Lebanon, have flooded the market.
