The ancient theater of Vienne is set to be illuminated by the celebrated trumpet sounds of Ibrahim Maalouf, who will inaugurate the Jazz à Vienne festival. Scheduled from June 27 to July 17, 2024, Jazz à Vienne promises to delight jazz enthusiasts with its rich array of performances.

The opening night of the 43rd edition of Jazz à Vienne, themed Trumpets Of Michel-Ange, is anticipated to be an unforgettable event, celebrating musical diversity with the participation of artists from various generations and backgrounds. A night of musical diversity and innovation is set to take place. At the core of Ibrahim Maalouf’s artistic creation lie improvisation, emotion and authenticity. In pursuit of unbridled creative expression, Ibrahim Maalouf embarks on a bold project titled Trumpets of Michel-Ange. This project revolves around a uniquely designed trumpet, equipped with four pistons, an innovation by his father, the renowned trumpeter Nassim Maalouf. This allows for the playing of quarter tones, integral to Ibrahim Maalouf’s music, which is deeply influenced by his Eastern heritage. Trumpets Of Michel-Ange also materializes into an album that blends jazz, classical music, pop and Eastern and urban sounds.

Endowed with a rich cultural heritage from his Lebanese origins, Maalouf is an artist of insatiable curiosity, passionately dedicated to musical discovery and experimentation. As a two-time Grammy Award nominee, he garnered international success, infusing his creations with his artistic background. His music, initially rooted in the Eastern tradition, stands out in the international music scene. Growing up in an environment where Arabic classical music mingled with the great standards of jazz and Western music, Ibrahim Maalouf developed a unique approach to the trumpet from a young age, notably influenced by the musical traditions of Lebanon.
