Following a session held Thursday, the Council of Ministers committed to verifying the presence of Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) members in Lebanon, with a view to their ultimate expulsion, according to the Information Minister Dr. Paul Morcos.
The step, the Cabinet said, aims to safeguard national security, assert state authority and reinforce control over weapons. The Cabinet tasked relevant ministries and departments with indexing the presence of IRGC members and preventing any military activity conducted by the group, regardless of their status or the cover under which they operate.
Information Minister Paul Morcos said the Cabinet also stressed the need to tighten border controls and prevent any actions that could undermine security in the country.
In the same session, the Cabinet also decided to reinstate visa requirements for Iranian nationals seeking entry to Lebanon.
Morcos quoted Salam as saying that “those who commit the sins are those who drag Lebanon to face unnecessary repercussions.” The prime minister also warned that “talk of treason is not courageous; it is irresponsible and incites strife.”
According to the Markaziya News Agency, more than two and a half hours of the meeting were devoted to discussions on security, political and social developments, while the remaining time was used to deliberate other issues on the agenda.
