The European Union has reiterated its support for Lebanon’s reform process during a visit to the Grand Serail in Beirut by Stefano Sannino, Director-General for the Middle East and North Africa at the European Commission.

Speaking Thursday after his meeting with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Sannino reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to its partnership with Lebanon and to backing the government’s reform agenda.

“I conveyed to the Prime Minister the European Union’s strong support for the government’s action and for the overall reform process, including the necessary reforms still to come, which are essential to lift Lebanon out of the crisis,” Sannino said, following the talks with Mikati and a European delegation.

He also emphasized the deep-rooted ties between the EU and Lebanon, noting that the relationship has evolved beyond economic cooperation. “Now more than ever, our relations carry a vital political dimension,” he added.

The visit comes as Lebanon attempts to revive its stalled economic and institutional recovery process, which has been highlighted both in the President’s inaugural speech and the government’s ministerial statement.
