A preparatory meeting for the upcoming international conference in support of the Lebanese Armed Forces and security services was held Tuesday in Cairo, bringing together Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal, Internal Security Forces Director General Major General Raed Abdallah, and representatives from several countries.
During the meeting, Haykal presented the needs of the Lebanese Army to complete the phases of its deployment across Lebanese territory.
The meeting brought together senior Lebanese and French officials, including LAF Commander General Rodolphe Haykal, ISF Director General Major General Raed Abdallah, Le Drian, and General Valentin Seiler, France’s representative to the ceasefire supervision mechanism in Lebanon.
Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that both sides agreed on the importance of continuing coordination within the framework of the Quintet Committee on Lebanon, which includes Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, France, and the United States, and strengthening its role in supporting the restoration of institutional stability in Lebanon.
On the sidelines of the Cairo talks, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with the personal envoy of French President Emmanuel Macron to Lebanon, Jean-Yves Le Drian. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s longstanding support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial unity, stressing that strengthening national institutions, particularly the LAF, is key to ensuring stability.
He also welcomed France’s active role in the upcoming Paris conference, expressing support for subsequent efforts to organize a broader international gathering aimed at backing Lebanon’s economy and reconstruction.
Abdelatty further called for a comprehensive international approach to restore stability in Lebanon, emphasizing the need for an immediate halt to Israeli operations, a full withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories, and the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
