A hit-and-run driver deliberately ran over an Internal Security Forces (ISF) officer in downtown Beirut’s Starco area while the officer was conducting identity checks on motorcyclists.
A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media. It showed a Mercedes speeding dangerously and hitting the officer, George Abou Jaoudeh, who was signaling the driver to stop. The hit-and-run driver, Khalil Ahmad Siblini, from Naqoura in Southern Lebanon, was later arrested in the Raoucheh neighborhood, by and ISF’s Intelligence unit.
The officer suffered a hip fracture and was admitted to the American University Hospital (AUH). His condition is stable.
