Sit-in in Brussels on Monday to Press for Repatriation of Syrians
The "National Campaign for the Repatriation of Syrian Refugees " called on its supporters, Lebanese expatriates and friends of Lebanon to "massively participate" in the sit-in that will be held in front of the Palace of Justice in Brussels on Monday, May 27, to press the European Union to help Lebanon return the refugees to their country.

This sit-in, which is to take place from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, is meant to urge EU leaders to change their stance regarding the repatriation of Syrian migrants and refugees to safe areas in Syria and to address the risks of Syrian presence in Lebanon, according to a statement issued by the group on Friday.

This sit-in comes in light of the "immense dangers" that the Syrians’ illegal presence poses to Lebanon's security, stability and existence, in addition to its "negative impacts" on the country's economic, social and environmental conditions, the statement added.

It mentioned that a delegation from the campaign, headed by legal advisor and lawyer Pierre Gemayel, will participate in the sit-in in Brussels and will conduct discussions with Members of the European Parliament regarding the repercussions of Syrian displacement on Lebanon's future.

The EU has so far considered the situation in Syria too risky and dangerous to allow the return of the migrants to their home country. It stresses that the return should be voluntary, safe and dignified in line with human rights laws.
