Israel carried out several airstrikes on southern Lebanese border towns on Monday morning, following heavy overnight clashes that did not taper off despite Christmas celebrations.
A series of air raids targeted the outskirts of Aita al-Shaab and Tal al-Raheb, as well as Aitaroun, as of 7:00 AM this morning. The sound of exploding missiles resonated in the of region of Bint Jbeil, as thick black smoke billowed over the targeted area.
Israeli warplanes also carried out air raids on the southern part of the town of Mays al-Jabal, targeting an empty agricultural area near the Imam al-Ridha Complex – Southern Marj.
Israel’s Channel 12 reported that the Israeli army targeted several Hezbollah sites. In response, an anti-tank missile from Lebanon was launched towards an Israeli target between Doviv and Metula in the western Galilee.
Overnight on Sunday, the Israeli army targeted the outskirts of the towns of Ramya, Marjayoun and Dhayra with consecutive airstrikes carried out by drones, according to the National News Agency.
Israel also dropped incendiary bombs on the forests adjacent to the Blue Line on the outskirts of Naqoura, Alma al-Shaab and Al-Bustan. Flare bombs were dropped above southern villages and towns. Israeli reconnaissance aircraft flew over the Lebanese border villages all night and until the morning, reaching the outskirts of the city of Tyre.
For its part, Hezbollah announced fresh attacks on Israeli posts in response to the airstrikes. A statement by the Iran-backed party said that its fighters targeted Israeli troops deployed near Mitat barracks “with relevant weapons.”
The party also announced the death of two its fighters hailing from Markaba and Mays al-Jabal.
An estimated 150 people have been killed in South Lebanon since Hezbollah opened its so-called “support front” with Gaza on October 8. The casualties, most of them fighters with Hezbollah, include more than 15 civilians.
On the Israeli side, at least four civilians and eight soldiers have been killed, according to Israeli media.
