The General Confederation of Lebanese Workers (CGTL) called on MPs on Tuesday to approve the draft budget for fiscal year 2024 with the improvements made by the Budget and Finance Committee.
In a statement, the CGTL said that it had examined the draft budget formula for fiscal 2024, amended by the parliamentary Finance and Budget Committee led by MP Ibrahim Kanaan.
“As this budget is an operating budget and not a reform budget, it must be approved with the improvements made to it by the Finance and Budget Committee so that it is not approved by decree which would lead to random taxes and fees,” the text reads.
The CGTL reiterated the importance of dialogue on the 2025 budget draft with all concerned bodies, economists, specialists and legal professionals inside and outside Parliament, to achieve a reform budget for fiscal 2025 that “lays the foundations for the beginning of Lebanon’s economic recovery.”
