On the third anniversary of the tragic explosion that shook Beirut on August 4, 2020, the United States reiterated its unwavering support for the Lebanese people and their quest for justice and accountability.

In a press release on Friday, the US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasized the right of the victims’ families to see those responsible for the explosion brought to justice. “The victims and their families deserve justice and accountability for those responsible for the disaster and the underlying causes. The lack of progress towards accountability is unacceptable and underscores the need for judicial reform and greater respect for the rule of law in Lebanon,” the statement read.
