The second mission to Beirut by Jean-Yves Le Drian, French President Emmanuel Macron’s personal representative for Lebanon, “is part of his facilitation and good offices mission” to reach “a consensual solution for the election of the President of the Republic.”

This was stated on Monday by the Quai d’Orsay spokeswoman, who added that Le Drian “will be making a second trip to Lebanon from the 25th to the 27th of July.”

She added, “His first trip, from the 21st to the 24th of June, enabled him to meet representatives of all the political parties represented in the Lebanese Parliament. He also held talks with the political, religious, and military authorities”.

She recalled that “the Personal Representative of the President of the Republic for Lebanon then traveled to Saudi Arabia from the 10th to the 12th of July, and then to Qatar, where he took part in a meeting on Lebanon with Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the US, and Egypt on July 17, before returning to Saudi Arabia on July 18.”

The spokeswoman continued, “This second visit to Lebanon is part of his mission of facilitation and good offices, with the aim of ensuring that all the stakeholders concerned create the conditions conducive to the emergence of a consensual solution for the election of the President of the Republic, which is an essential step for the reactivation of the political institutions that Lebanon urgently needs to embark on the road to recovery.”
