On Monday, the head of Hezbollah’s parliamentary bloc MP Mohammad Raad called for a dialogue in order to find a solution to the presidential vacuum.

In his appeal, Raad reiterated his party’s endorsement of the candidacy of the head of the Marada Movement Sleiman Frangieh. “Why should we withdraw his candidacy?” he asked.

The Hezbollah MP revisited his very subjective vision of dialogue by imposing his candidate without consideration for the opposition’s candidate. “Either we’ll convince you that he [Frangieh] is the right person, or you’ll convince us that he’s not up to the task. We’re here to reassure you,” he stressed.

Raad evoked the first 11 electoral sessions, recalling that they (the Amal/Hezbollah duo) had cast a blank vote to push the other side into dialogue, while insisting that, for him, “the problem lies with those who don’t want to elect a president who reassures the resistance by not stabbing it in the back.”

Addressing the opposition MPs, Raad declared in his familiar demagoguery: “You can try and elect the president you want, but we ask you to reach an agreement that suits us all.”
