“We must, we can, we will.” With this in mind, the Lebanese women’s rugby team is preparing to take part in the Arab Rugby Sevens Championship, to be hosted by Saudi Arabia, more precisely in the city of Taif, on February 16 and 17, with the participation of 8 teams: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Syria, Libya, Jordan and Lebanon.
It is worth noting that the host country is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which has recently seen a development in women’s sport, with positive repercussions for the region and surrounding countries to develop their teams.
Rugby sevens is a variant of rugby in which teams are made up of seven players playing seven-minute halves, instead of the usual 15 players playing 40-minute halves. Rugby 7s is administered by World Rugby, the organization responsible for rugby 7s worldwide.
The aim of the team’s participation is to gain experience for future tournaments and competitions on the one hand, and to measure themselves against neighboring countries on the other, bearing in mind that the team’s players stand out for their fighting spirit and friendliness on and off the field, which will reflect positively on the results.
We wish the Lebanese players every success in this tournament, and hope that women’s sport will be given greater prominence in the future.
