Pope Francis calls for “truth and justice” regarding the Beirut Port explosion, on August 4, 2020.
In a meeting with the families of victims on Monday, the Pope affirmed his stance “in seeking truth and justice which have not yet been achieved.”
“It is widely acknowledged that the matter is intricate and problematic, with various conflicting forces and interests at play,” the Pope added.
A delegation representing the families of the victims of the Beirut port explosion is in the Vatican. The visit and audience are purely pastoral, aimed at providing spiritual support from the Pope to those affected by the explosion. Nonetheless, this audience brings increased visibility to the cause of the victims’ families.
