The UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) announced that three peacekeeping soldiers on patrol were slightly injured on Sunday morning when an explosion occurred near their vehicle in the vicinity of Yarine, in southern Lebanon.

In a statement, UNIFIL indicated that “all the peacekeeping soldiers who were on patrol returned safely to their base, and we are investigating the incident.” The statement also firmly reminded “all parties and actors that it is their responsibility to avoid harming peacekeepers and civilians.”

A UNIFIL source told AFP the explosion that injured the peacekeepers was probably a nearby air strike, but “not a direct hit”.
UNIFIL’s mandate, which expires at the end of the month, is set to be renewed by the UN Security Council for another year.
