Druze leader Walid Joumblatt stressed to Marada leader Sleiman Frangieh the importance he attaches to Christian backing, particularly Maronite support through Bkerke, which he believes any candidate for the presidency of the Republic should benefit from.
This was during the dinner to which he had invited Frangieh on Monday at Clemenceau, when he explained to his guest that he had supported the candidacy of former minister Jihad Azour for the presidency of the Republic when Bkerke, Christian personalities, and parties rallied around it.
