The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, met with the army’s Commander-in-Chief, General Joseph Aoun, in Yarzeh on Sunday, the second day of his diplomatic mission to Lebanon.

Discussions revolved around the situation in Lebanon and the region, and the latest developments on the southern border.

 

On Saturday, Borrell met with Speaker of the House Nabih Berri, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdallah Bou Habib and UN Head of Mission and Force Commander Aroldo Lázaro.

“It is imperative to avoid regional escalation in the Middle East. It is necessary to avoid Lebanon being dragged into a regional conflict,” Borrell said during the press conference with his Lebanese counterpart.
