The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) spokesperson to Lebanon, Andrea Tenenti, expressed UNIFIL’s “shock and sadness when they received the news about a group of Lebanese journalists who were reporting next to Tayr Harfa in southern Lebanon being targeted,” pointing out that “deliberately targeting journalists and civilians constitutes a violation of international law and could amount to war crimes.”

In an interview with the National News Agency (NNA), he affirmed that “UNIFIL continues to urge all parties to respect the safety of journalists and civilians, and to avoid striking areas where they may be harmed or killed.” He said, “We extend our condolences to the families and friends of the victims.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the southern front flared up again, with the Israeli army targeting a group of journalists in Tayr Harfa. Farah Omar and Rabih Maamari, who respectively worked as a journalist and a photographer with Al Mayadeen television station, were killed.
