The President of the Board of Directors of the Beirut and Mount Lebanon Water Establishment (EBML), Jean Gebran, stated on Friday that the country is going through a period of water shortage, which is normal for the season, and that “this is one of the reasons for the rationing that residents are experiencing.” The other reason is the lack of fuel.

Gebran mentioned in an interview with Voice of Lebanon that “efforts are being made to ensure as continuous a water supply as possible.” He also reiterated his calls to “increase the water fee to $100 in order to ensure the sustainability of the supply.”

This request to dollarize the water sector comes at a time when the country is engulfed in an unprecedented political and economic crisis that has been met with the total indifference of authorities.
