Samuel Werberg, a spokesperson for the US State Department based in Dubai, said on Sunday that his country is not worried about the security situation in Beirut.

In an interview with the Lebanese TV Al-Jadeed, quoted by Al-Markazia news agency, Werberg firmly denounced the gunshots which targeted the entrance to the US Embassy in Awkar last Wednesday September 21.

He added, “We strongly condemn this operation. American Ambassador Dorothy Shea expressed to caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati our confidence in the Lebanese security services in following up on the circumstances of this act. We are awaiting the results of the investigation.”

“We are not worried about security in Beirut and are taking all measures to protect ourselves,” he continued.

Werberg also indicated that the US team “is communicating closely with the security services to avoid the recurrence of such an incident.”

Furthermore, in a statement to the daily An-Nahar, spokesperson for the US Embassy in Beirut Jake Nelson denied press reports stating that employees of the diplomatic mission had arrested a person involved in the shooting against the embassy.
