French President Emmanuel Macron’s personal envoy for Lebanon, Jean-Yves Le Drian, will hold talks in Paris next week with former minister Jihad Azour, the opposition candidate for the Lebanese presidency of the republic.

After contacting Mr. Azour, Le Drian’s office set an appointment for next week  as the former finance minister will be in Europe, following a trip to Washington.

The French envoy concluded a three-day visit to Lebanon as part of his efforts to resolve the presidential deadlock. He returned to Paris on Saturday after meeting in Beirut with the leaders of the various political parties and groups represented in Parliament, as well as the figures for whom MPs voted during the electoral session on 14 June.
