The residents of Beirut and its surrounding areas, as well as several towns in the Metn region, have been deprived of running water for a week. The pumping station in Dbayeh, which serves these different areas, is shut down. The explosion of a transformer at the Zouk power plant prevents EDL (state-run electricity company) from providing the electricity needed to operate the water office’s installations. Thus, many residents are resorting to water tankers, an additional burden for the majority of households already severely affected by the economic crisis.
