From Brussels, Director General of the Ministry of Economy Mohammad Abou Haidar announced that Lebanon’s exports to the European Union reached an all-time high in 2022, reaching a value of $600 million.

During a meeting with representatives of the Directorate General for Trade and the Directorate General for Customs and Customs Union of the European Commission, Abou Haidar reiterated Lebanon’s dedication to enhancing economic and commercial relations with the European Union. He emphasized the importance of effectively utilizing partnership agreements that have significantly boosted Lebanese exports and commercial ties with the EU.

The Lebanese official thanked the Europeans for their constructive cooperation after Lebanon was included in the list of countries authorized to export animal products. He, however, called for exempting Lebanon from the new export conditions imposed by the EU concerning combined products.

Promoting stronger business cooperation and linking Lebanese businesses with foreign markets through Lebanon’s membership in the European business network was also at the center of discussions held on the sidelines of the meeting of the sixth regional platform of the Union for the Mediterranean on trade and investment. Abou Haidar actively took part in these discussions in Brussels.

The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is an intergovernmental institution comprising 42 countries with the objective of fostering dialogue and cooperation.

The recend findings of the Purchase Managers Index (PMI), published by BlomInvest on Monday, June 5, revealed a substantial surge in the index of new export orders. This increase marks the highest growth rate osberved since June 2015.
