Six Beirut MPs on Tuesday called for denying permission to hold the “Gemmayze Habibit Albé” festival scheduled to take place on June 17 and 18.

MPs Nadim Gemayel, Jihad Pakradouni, Jean Talouzian, Ghassan Hasbani, Nicolas Sehnaoui, and Hagob Terzian recalled the nuisance caused by a previous two-day festival in May, which led to closing entrances and exits to Gemmayze, preventing residents from returning home.

“This event left a negative impression on the residents, as its organizers have shown little consideration for the area’s inhabitants. Such events do not align with the spirit, customs, and traditions of the neighborhood,” stated the MPs.

According to them, the organizers exploit the unique characteristics of the region and the open-mindedness of its residents to host events that fail to meet fundamental organizational standards.

Furthermore, the MPs urged the authorities not to grant a permit to hold the festival or to restrict its duration to a maximum of seventeen hours, ensuring that violations committed during the May festival are not repeated.
