On Monday, Army Commander General Joseph Aoun met in Yarzeh with the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Lebanon Walid al-Bukhari. According to the Army’s twitter page, they discussed means to support the military institution. Aoun also met with the Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon Yasser Alawi. Talks revolved around mutual cooperation means between the two countries.
Joseph Aoun’s name is often mentioned as a potential candidate for the presidency of the Republic. This post has been vacant since the end of Michel Aoun’s tenure, at the end of October 2022. Saudi Arabia and Egypt, along with France, the USA, and Qatar, constitute the 5-state group that met twice in Paris to discuss the Lebanese political crisis.
