Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati has called on Arab countries to “sponsor an inter-Lebanese dialogue aiming to establish stability in Lebanon and elect a President of the Republic.”

In an interview with Al-Hadath TV on Saturday, following the 32nd Arab League summit in Jeddah, Mikati attributed the deadlock in the presidential election to “the lack of support among Lebanese people.”

“We need a dialogue among the Lebanese people,” he stated, adding, “if they had supported each other, they could have chosen a President of the Republic.”

Mikati also highlighted Lebanon’s need for support from its Arab neighbors to address the socio-economic crisis. He reassured that the government would take “all necessary measures to combat drug trafficking,” mentioning a meeting held with relevant parties to take the appropriate measures.

The Caretaker Prime Minister, who has returned to Beirut, noted that “Lebanon does not need a new Taif Agreement but must implement this agreement.”

“We have been isolated from the Arab world in recent years (during Michel Aoun’s tenure),” lamented Mr. Mikati, who demanded the “election of a president capable of reintegrating Lebanon into the Arab community and strengthening internal harmony.”

Additionally, he highlighted the significant role of Saudi Arabia in resolving issues with Arab countries and promoting stability and development in the region.
