Member of the Strong Republic bloc (Lebanese Forces) MP Fadi Karam said that “concertation is taking place with MP Gorges Atallah (Free Patriotic Movement), however, the matter does not concern a convergence or understanding between the LF and the FPM but rather the issue of the presidency of the Republic.”
He clarified that “meetings always take place between MPs to discuss the presidential issue in order to start rebuilding the states’ institutions”.
He noted that “all parties are aware of the danger of the presidential void, therefore communication is taking place with the opposition parties and with the FPM members of Parliament.”
He revealed that “limited names are being circulated among all parties and the common denominator among them is preventing a candidate from the Moumanaa (pro-Hezbollah) camp from reaching the presidency.”
He did not rule out “the possibility of convergence between the Free Patriotic Movement and the Lebanese Forces on a joint candidate for the presidency as a result of the discussions that are taking place”, stressing on “the possibility of reaching a common candidate to counter the Moumanaa candidate”.
