As a result of the raging war in southern Lebanon, the losses in the tourism sector amount to more than 3 billion dollars, according to an initial estimate.

The Secretary General of Lebanon’s tourism institutions, Jean Beyrouthi, has stated that “the decline in the hotel sector is very significant, as the occupancy rate has fallen to less than 20%, while the number of visitors to restaurants has dropped by around 50%. As for the beach resorts and car rental sector, it has plummeted by more than 50%.”

In an interview with the MTV television channel, he said that tourism has been affected by what is happening in Lebanon and the region, and that the damage caused to the tourism sector is significant.

He believes that this situation will affect the tourism sector, particularly the hotel and travel sectors, until next spring.
