Gas station owners took the decision to stop accepting credit card payments starting Thursday, in response to a decision issued by the Ministry of Finance to collect taxes and fees in cash, in Lebanese pounds.

In this context, the representative of fuel distributors in Lebanon, Fadi Abou Chakra, apologized to citizens, assuring that he had been “forced to take this measure after a decision under which the caretaker Minister of Finance, Youssef El-Khalil, changed the rate of collection of duties and taxes to 100% cash, in Lebanese pounds.”

In an interview with Lebanon Debate, Abou Chakra asserted that, as fuel distributors and service station owners, “we can no longer collect money by bank card, as we cannot withdraw it from banks to pay it to the Lebanese state.”

He held the Ministry of Finance responsible.
