The parliamentary Finance and Budget Committee, chaired by MP Ibrahim Kanaan, met on Monday to continue its examination of the draft budget for fiscal year 2024. The draft, which was approved by the Council of Ministers on September 12, is now submitted to Parliament for final approval.

The committee completed the third chapter on tax amendments. It rejected the budget cut approved without a global fiscal vision that takes into account economic and monetary impacts.

The Finance Committee asked the government for details of the emergency plan devised in the event of war and its financing. It summoned, in this respect, Lebanon’s Central Bank (BDL) to a forthcoming session to examine the financial and monetary impact of the measures taken by the government in the event of further deterioration of the situation in Lebanon.
