Unlicensed bakeries will henceforth lose their eligibility to receive subsidized flour. A press release issued by the Beirut and Mount Lebanon Bakeries Union stated that all unlicensed bakeries will be shut down by the Ministry of Industry and will no longer be supplied with subsidized flour by the Ministry of Economy.

“We urge unlicensed bakeries to immediately apply for licenses, and call upon those who have not renewed their industrial certificate to do so and hand it over to the Ministry of the Economy,” the text read.

The union claims to have reached out to caretaker Minister of Industry George Bouchikian to assist in the process of obtaining the certificates and licenses required by the Ministry of the Economy so that bakeries can receive subsidized flour regularly and sustain their bread production.
